La Tutora de Español: A Spanish reader for Novice-High/Intermediate-Low students

La tutora de español is my first published book. I initial wrote it for my students in Spanish 3, first semester.

SYNOPSIS: Blake is struggling with Spanish. He just can’t seem to understand it or how it connects to his life. That is until he meets Isadora Rojas, a beautiful Chilean volleyball player who doesn’t speak any English. Suddenly Blake has found a desire to learn, or as his professor puts it, “ganas”. With the help of his tutor, Blake finds confidence in his Spanish ability. But, will Blake learn enough to impress Isadora? Or will Blake discover something even more wonderful than he had planned?

La tutora de español is a quintessential romantic comedy with some very specific language learner problems and jokes. In addition to discussing some of the challenges of language learning, La tutora de español also examines culture with a Día de la Raza celebration and a visit to Oaxaca during Día de los Muertos that includes a small serenade and the tasting of chapulines.

La tutora de español is a perfect addition to a FVR (free voluntary reading) classroom library. It also works well as a whole class novel with its cultural focus and a couple mini pronunciation and grammar lessons. Students will find that they relate well with the characters and teachers will find multiple discussion points. This book is also a hit with my Heritage Spanish Speakers!

La tutora de español is available on Amazon in paperback or ebook format.

  1. Hola Camilla — I recently saw a post outlining your future writing projects, including a Sci-Fi trilogy, I think, with a link to sample pages. Now I can’t find that post. I’m enjoying La Tutora de Español, and wanted to see what the Sci-Fi book was going to be like. Can you send me that link? Gracias!

    1. Hola Linda. I am happy you are enjoying “La tutora de español”. I had so much fun writing that book. As for a sci-fi book I am not sure what you are referring to. I have not written a sci-fi novel. I did have a link to the first couple chapters of a fantasy novel I am working on, but I took them down because I am making changes.

    1. Sorry about that. I am updating my books to reflect my name and I neglected to update the links on this page. They are updated now, but just in case, here is the new link again: La tutora de español!

  2. Hi Camilla, I have just read this book and loved it. You have a natural talent for story telling. I look forward to you writing more books. Thank you. John

  3. I received my copy of the book yesterday 08/04/23 it is perfect for my level. Simple enough that I can grasp the story, challenging enough enough to make me think. I read the chapter or chapters to get the gist. I then go back to the words that I am clueless about and try to figure out what they mean in context, if all else fails Google translate. I write the translation in English above the Spanish words as a way to refer back later on if I see that word and forget. Thank you for putting this story together. I am looking forward to be able to purchase more books.

  4. I loved loved your book it is the perfect level for me. I just wish Blake and Lupe could get back together. Can you please write a second book. You are amazing and so cute. Love Patti Abuelita de Idaho❤️❤️

    1. I am so glad you liked it. I have gotten that request for a second book from a lot of my students too! Maybe my next summer project…
