Season 1, episode 2

It can be hard to wander through life alone, especially on Valentine’s Day. Ed the elephant is searching for the perfect girlfriend. He wants someone who is nice, fun, and patient. However, as Ed discovers, those traits can sometimes be hard to find.

This short, simple story is told in the present tense and focuses on the words “is”, “nice”, “mean”, “say”, “ask” and “write”.

ED WANTS A GIRLFRIEND

There is a gray elephant. The gray elephant is named Ed. Ed is big, handsome and young. Ed is nice, intelligent and shy. Ed has friends, but he doesn’t have a girlfriend. Ed wants a girlfriend because it is Valentine’s Day. Ed wants a good girlfriend. Ed wants a nice, fun, and patient girlfriend.

Ed decides to walk in the park. In the park, Ed sees a lot of possible girlfriends. Ed sees a short girl who is very, very pretty. Ed runs to the girl. He runs and runs. He doesn’t watch where he is going and he runs into the girl.

“Hello,” Ed says, “you are really pretty. What’s your name?”

The girl looks at Ed and says, “My name is good-bye, clumsy elephant.” Then she runs away from Ed.

Ed is not good. The girl was not nice to Ed. She was very mean. Ed feels very shy. Ed sees another girl. The girl is tall, skinny, and very, very pretty. Ed walks up to the girl and says, “Hello. I-I’m Ed. W-what’s y-your n-name?”

“Hello, shy elephant,” the girl says. “I’m Selena.”

“Nice to meet you, Selena,” Ed says. “I want a girlfriend. Are you nice, fun and patient?”

“Yes!” Selena yells. “I need a boyfriend too. What are you like?

“I am nice, patient, and hardworking,” Ed says.

“Oh no!” Selena cries. “I want a bad, impatient and lazy boyfriend.” Selena cries and cries.

“Selena is crazy,” Ed thinks. Then he says, “Goodbye, Selena.”

Later, Ed sees another girl. The girl has brown hair. She is not tall or short and she is very, very pretty. Ed looks at the girl and says, “Hello, beautiful. What’s your name?”

“My name is Kesha. What do you want?” the girl asks.

“I want a girlfriend. What are you like?” Ed asks.

“I am mean and I have five (5) boyfriends,” Kesha responds, “and I don’t need another one.”

“Okay,” Ed says, “bye.”

Ed walks in the park and thinks that it is impossible to find the perfect girlfriend. He looks at all the girls. He sees lazy girls and athletic girls. He sees fat girls and skinny girls. He sees girls with blonde hair, brown hair, red hair and black hair. Finally, he sees a special girl.

Ed walks up to the girl and says, “H-how are you?”

“Hee, hee. I’m good, cutie,” the girl says. “You are shy and handsome.”

“Yes, I am shy,” Ed says, “and you are very pretty. I want a girlfriend. Are you a nice girl?”

“Yes!” the girl shouts. “I am nice, fun, and patient.”

“What’s your name?”

“My name is Lori.”

“Lori, do you want to be my girlfriend?” Ed asks.

“Yes!” Lori shouts.

Ed is very happy because he has a perfect girlfriend. Ed sees his friend Felix. Felix runs in the park. Ed shouts to him.

“Hello Felix! I have a girlfriend. Her name is Lori and she is nice, fun and patient.”

“How are you, beautiful?” Felix asks.

“Wow, mouse,” Lori exclaims. “You are small, handsome and perfect. Good-bye fat elephant!”

Felix is not happy with the girl. He says “You are not nice, you are mean. My friend Ed is not fat!”

Lori does not like being yelled at. She cries and runs home.

“You are a good friend, Felix. Thank you,” Ed says.

“You’re welcome, Ed. You are also a good friend,” Felix responds.

“But now I don’t have a girlfriend for Valentine’s Day,” Ed says. He is sad.

“You don’t need a girlfriend,” Felix exclaims, “you have friends!”

Ed thinks Felix is right. He doesn’t need a girlfriend.

“Felix, let’s go eat!” Ed says.

The End.
