Season 2, episode 3

Welcome to season 2 of Simple Stories in English! In this season, I will be telling you more about myself. I am in control of how I feel, but sometimes things happen that cause me to feel a certain way. I mostly feel happy, but sometimes I am frustrated, nervous, worried, sad, or surprised.

This story is in the first person and the present tense. Important vocabulary in the story includes: frustrated, angry, nervous, worried, tired, confused, sad, surprised, and thankful.

How Do I Feel?

How do I feel? Well, typically, I am happy. I am a positive person and I am happy most of the time. I am optimistic and I like life so I am content or happy.

But I am not always happy. Sometimes I am not happy. For example, I’m not happy when I spend a lot of time writing directions with a lot of detail and my students don’t read or simply completely ignore the instructions. When my students ignore the directions, I am not happy – I am frustrated. I’m frustrated because I use my time to explain the details well, and my students ignore everything. It is very frustrating.

Sometimes I am more than frustrated. Sometimes I’m angry. I’m angry when people ignore my ideas. I’m angry when people are bad or mean. I’m angry when people don’t value my time. I am not angry a lot. Typically I just get frustrated.

I am frustrated, and a little angry, when I’m in traffic in a city. I don’t like cities, I prefer small towns. But when I’m in the city in traffic, I get irritated with the fast traffic and the slow traffic.

I don’t like lines. When I am in a line of traffic or people, I’m not only frustrated, I’m bored. When I’m in line, I don’t have an activity. I am an active person and when I’m not active, I get bored. I get bored when I read books that don’t have action. I get bored when I’m in the doctor’s office. I get bored when I listen to presentations in a monotone voice.

When I need to do a presentation, I get nervous. I like theater and I like acting, but I’m always nervous when I act. I’m nervous because I want to do a good job. I also get nervous when I travel by plane. I get nervous and worried. I think that I don’t have an important object or I think that maybe the plane has a mechanical problem.

I get very nervous when I’m in a dangerous situation, or a situation when I could have an accident. I’m also very nervous when I am in a high place. I don’t like heights much. When I’m on a tall mountain, I get very nervous.

In addition to being nervous, when I walk in the mountains a lot, I am tired. I am tired because it is a lot of work and I typically walk for hours. When I am in the mountains for days, I am more than tired, I am exhausted. I only want to sleep. I am exhausted when I don’t sleep well. I also am exhausted when I have a lot of work that uses a lot of energy.

When I am tired, I have more problems with comprehension. I am confused when I don’t understand. I am confused when I read very complicated instructions. I am confused when I listen o a language I don’t understand. I am confused when I don’t have all the necessary information. Sometimes I am confused when I read because I don’t remember an important detail.

If I am confused I can make a lot of mistakes. After making a mistake, I am embarrassed. My face turns red and I don’t want to look at anyone because I am embarrassed. Especially when my mistake is very obvious and in front of a lot of people, I am embarrassed and I just want to disappear. I think that I am embarrassed because I am worried about my reputation.

I am worried when a person has an accident. I am worried because I want the person to be okay. I am worried when my sons have accidents and cry because they are sad and hurt.

I am sad when my sons are sad. I am also sad when I see a sad show. I am sad and I cry when I read sad moments in books and when I listen to sad music. I am sad when a friend moves to another town or state or country. I am sad when my favorite students graduate.

Not all my emotions are negative. I also have moments when I am more than happy. For example, when I receive a prize, I am excited! When I go to Minnesota to visit my family, I am excited! When I go on a big trip, I am excited! I am also excited when I see nature.

Sometimes I am surprised when I see nature. I am surprised because the reality is much more spectacular than the image in my mind. There are not many surprises in my life, but I am surprised when I receive gifts or flowers. I am also surprised when I receive a prize or recognition. I am also surprised when I receive mail in my mailbox because not many people send mail anymore.

Another positive emotion I have is gratitude. I am thankful when someone does something nice for me. For example, when a friend helps me, I am thankful and I say “thank you.” When someone writes a nice comment, I am thankful. When I think about all the good things in my life, and there are a lot of good things in my life, I am thankful. I am thankful for my family, my health, and my friends.

I have several emotions in a day. How are you? What are your emotions?

The End.
